Dr. Martin Luther King knew a great deal about forgiveness and Opening Hearts begins Chapter 4: Pain, Compassion, Choice, Transcendence with this quote from him: “As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation—either to react with bitterness or to seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.”
Whether our suffering comes from illness or injury, or from emotional, financial, physical, or spiritual assault, we have the power and the choice to transform it into a creative force for our good and the good of others. Forgiveness is the first step in that transformative process. It is the light that pierces the darkness. It is a necessary step for peace.
Who needs your forgiveness today?
